A musical genius who has won numerous awards
M Jayachandran began his classical music training at the age of five. He learned from renowned musicians such as Mullamodu Baagavathar, Shri Attingal Hariharaiyyar, Neyyattinkara M K Mohanachandran, and Perumbaavoor G Raveendranadh. He was also influenced by legends like M B Sreenivasan and Devarajan Master.
As a student, Jayachandran captivated audiences with his musical talent, winning many awards. He was the champion of the Carnatic music competition at the Kerala University Youth Festival for four consecutive years from 1987 to 1990.
“Every genre of music and musicians has introduced a fresh breath of air into the world of film-based music. And, I don’t really agree with the tag ‘new generation’. Devarajan-master was responsible for creating a new wave. In that sense, he too belonged to a ‘new’ generation and so are most others like him.”
M. Jayachandran is primarily known as a music composer in the Indian film industry, particularly in Malayalam cinema. While he’s renowned for his exceptional talent in composing music, he has also showcased his singing prowess on several occasions.
His voice carries a unique charm and emotive depth, which adds an extra layer of richness to the songs he sings. Though he may not be as prolific a singer as some other playback singers, his contributions to music through both his compositions and his vocal performances have earned him recognition and appreciation from audiences and critics alike.
