M Jayachandran began his classical music training at the age of five. He learned from renowned musicians such as Mullamodu Baagavathar, Shri Attingal Hariharaiyyar, Neyyattinkara M K Mohanachandran, and Perumbaavoor G Raveendranadh. He was also influenced by legends like M B Sreenivasan and Devarajan Master.

As a student, Jayachandran captivated audiences with his musical talent, winning many awards. He was the champion of the Carnatic music competition at the Kerala University Youth Festival for four consecutive years from 1987 to 1990. Jayachandran made his debut as a singer in the Malayalam film “Vasudha” (1992), directed by V V Babu. He then worked as an assistant to Devarajan Master, further honing his skills. His breakthrough came with the movie “Chantha” (1995), directed by Sunil, marking his debut as an independent music director.

Jayachandran has performed in numerous international Carnatic concerts and has a large global fan base.

In 2005, he conducted an orchestra of 3000 classical musicians, including M S Gopalakrishnan, Umayalpuram Shivaraman, Ravikiran, Kadri Gopalnath, M Chandrasekharan, T N Shashagopalan, and T V Gopalakrishnan, during the Anandolthsavam event by Sri Sri Ravishankar in Bangalore.

He has also mentored aspiring musicians by judging popular music reality shows like Superstar and Superstar Global on Amrita TV, and Star Singer on Asianet.

Jayachandran’s next major project is an Indo-Arab orchestral collaboration, aiming to bring his music to an international audience. He also plans to write about the theory of structured melody to inspire and support musicians and academicians.
